Did you know . . . It is hard to find much information about M.L. Lynch,
the person that started the Lynch Turkey Call Company in 1940, but there is one source that has details about who Mr. Lynch was and how he got started. I found a book written by Howard L. Harlan called"TURKEY CALLS" An Enduring American Folk Art. Some of the information about Mike Lynch includes the fact that in the 1930's he was a home builder in Homewood, Alabama which is near Birmingham. This work involved wood work and building cabinets, which would helped him with his call making later . His father loved to hunt and that is why Mike and his four brothers enjoyed hunting deer, turkey, squirrel and quail. By the end of the 1930's after several attempts at making turkey calls, he realized he had a good sounding call and that people would buy them. At one point, he decided to fill his car trunk with calls and drove up to an area in Pennsylvania to sell them to hunters that he knew liked turkey hunting. The story goes that he sold every call he had and decided that call making might be a good way to make a living. The book by Mr. Harlan has a chapter dedicated to one of the most influential turkey call makers in the world, M.L. Lynch. There is more detail on what inspired Mike in his early days of call making and how the making of a call is now considered an art form. I encourage anyone interested in learning more about turkey calls to look at "TURKEY CALLS" by Howard L. Harlan. Mr. Harlan is a call maker himself and is acknowledged worldwide as a game call historian, author and collector. D. In 1940 M.L. Lynch started his world famous turkey call company. He had many years to perfect the sounds of his call and even wrote a book about how to call and understanding the wild turkey language. He later put this information in a recording and reproduced them on a 45 record for his fellow hunters. The foundation of his company were three calls that say it all in the name he gave them. The Fool Proof (Model #101) like it says makes realistic hen yelps with little effort or expertise from the user. The World Champion (Model #102) was just that and it could make both the hen sounds on one side and the gobbler on the other. Then The Jet Slate (Model #100) was small and compact, but could make all of the hen calls like the purr, putt and yelp in perfect tone. These are LEGACY calls of the original Lynch Call Company and they are re-produced in America in the tradition of the way Mr. Lynch originally intended. For a limited time we are offering The Legacy Collection (3 call set) in a cherry or cedar presentation box. It can be custom laser etched with your company name or event to promote or celebrate our heritage and your cause. For more information, click here.
